How did I come across the book?
So I believe in fate and I believe I was meant to read this book. My story I was on the way to a interview in Central London. A promoter at the station gave me a Maire Claire promotional issue . I usually don't take these things - but I actually read it on the way to my interview. Lilly Singh was featured in the issue.
A friend and I go to the pub so we can work on job applications, blog , try and be creative. As we both come back from travelling the world being at home can be daunting. Trying to not get depressed and deflated. The interview went well and I was accepted for the job, so I was excited and pumped but something didn't feel right why was I missing him (the ex) so much today. But this was a sign from God to move on to bigger and better. My best friend was with me and she was happy for me!
How the book helped me personally?
So I went home that evening decided to channel my energy into something productive so I bought the book of amazon. Early next morning I went to the gym and then sat in Costa Coffee reading the book. The book gave me energy which caused excitement for my day but reading it gave more perspective. I loved it - Lilly was like a friend directly talking to you, but this way you can go back and press the repeat button (in this case re-read). Which was great!!!
It gave me motivation to start taking action - I was feeling sorry for myself and lost all my confidence after the break up. As Lilly has perfectly described my feelings in "out of the blue 2009" section in part 1 - "I’ve been robbed of my confidence, strength, and imagination." That is exactly what I felt.
The book has given me a bounce given me a spring back into my life. I made a list of blog ideas and how I want to be successful - in order to help others! I am British Asian tackling minor depression but desperately wanting to move on and come out of this phase.
How To Be A Bawse - is broken down in 4 parts.
First part is "master your mind" which is really important. Lilly goes through critical issues about self love and overthinking. Second part is "Hustle" this part helps you actually action your thoughts and how to achieve goals/ambitions. There is a great picture with Lilly but behind it the billboard with says "give life character". Very true and resented with me.
Powerful activity given by Lilly -
"Make a list of your accomplishments and recognize how you achieved them". This will help you with FOMO. There is so much to learn from this book. I read blogs and articles all the time. I feel that this book just tells you how it is! Which is hits you at home.
"It can't make you or break you" I love this quote- no matter how big the problem or opportunity may be - take this in consideration before dwelling on it.
The book then goes into a third part which is "make heads turn" , this part Lilly talks about protecting your vision and investing in yourself. Which I believe is so important - "you are never too good to stop investing in yourself".
This can be after a horrible life experience or just when you are high on life! We invest so much time and effort on our loved ones. You will bug you mother to book a doctors appointment if something is wrong with her - or maybe you may even do it for her. But what about that tooth ache you have had for a few months? What about us?
What a amazing piece of advise: "Instead of scrolling mindlessly through Facebook and checking in on what everyone else is doing, use that time to check in on what’s happening in your life."
The book has given me a step to step guide on how to act like a bawse. From clothes to style then attitude which is great for people new to this environment. I come from a corporate/city working environment so some of those things I had to learn the hard way but Lilly has said those thing correctly!
Recent Breakup - The Ex
"You know who is right for you? The person who is everything you love about your ex, except for the part that hurt you." Great quote for those who have recently broken up. Including myself - it's so true things happen for a reason. It's broken for a reason something wasn't working or you both were not on the same page. As you can't clap with one hand.
I love the chapter when Lilly mentions God/higher power it's so important. Personally I have recently discovered this concept (People always say you turn to God for help its true!). People who are very successful still in their success stories speak about the lord. The lord/higher power controls all but with his blessing and guidance you can handle most situations. Faith is so important people get caught up in superficial things.
In conclusion of the book 'with hard work' dreams can come true they did for Lilly. Much appreciated for this book it has helped me in a difficult time in my life. I always a Bawse (i believed) but this situation knocked my confidence completely. But Lilly has given me the strength to dust myself off and try again! Thank you Lilly xxxx
